Established in 2017, Designs by Karen started as a mother-daughter team offering custom cabinetry. Today, Design by Karen offers professionals who can assist with everything you need for your upcoming project including cabinetry, countertops, flooring, fixtures, hardware, tile, and glass.
MEET KAREN OSTERGREN
Custom Kitchen Designer | Owner
Owner Karen is a 5th generation Midlander and retired from for Dow Chemical after 25 years where she designed and implemented several global initiatives. Her passion for design began when she was a little girl. She found herself drawing simple house plans and visualizing walking through each room. Design continued to be her passion when she finally built her first house in 1987 another house in 1992, and 2010, and is currently planning a new build next spring in Midland. Over the years she has been close to the building industry and has taken great pride in many of her accomplishments. Most of all, Karen is a self-starter, a trusted friend, a mother of 5 girls and is married to her best friend, Eric Ostergren.
MEET JANELLE CRANDELL
Designer | Project Manager | Co-Owner
Janelle loves collaborating with not only clients and other professionals in the industry but also with her work family! She finds it rewarding to learn and make dreams come to life as a team. Janelle has been a valuable part of The DBK Team since 2018, gaining first-hand experience working on projects from start to finish as both a salesperson and designer. She believes great spaces are created by listening and understanding how each client lives and functions within their space. Seeing her clients’ eyes light up when they see their dream space complete fuels Janelle’s passion for design.
MEET Morgan Romp
Designer | Project Manager
Morgan graduated from Lawrence Technological University with a Bachelor’s in Interior Architecture and joins DBK with over 10 years of experience in residential kitchen and bathroom design. She enjoys spending quality time at home with her husband and four children. You can usually find them up north on the lake, enjoying the serene beauty of nature during the summer. Balancing the art of keeping house plants alive with the delicious challenge of creating decadent chocolate desserts, Morgan masters both with equal parts determination and delight.
MEET Tanya Hayes
Lead Development | Design Consulting
Tanya has a passion for all things visual, with a particular love for graphic design and interior design. Her early years were spent selling condominium and single-family homes, helping clients decorate their new purchases.
Once a family came along, she decided to homeschool and began studying graphic design, transitioning her love of color and placement to building websites and creating marketing materials for small businesses, non-profits, and churches.
At DBK, Tanya’s unique skill set—including a keen eye for design, an understanding of visual aesthetics, and the creativity to merge various elements into a cohesive whole—comes together.
